Ruth Felong 1927-2010

Ruth Felong
1927 - 2010

Andy's Mother recently passed away after a bout with cancer. She managed to stay in her home until the end with the fantastic help of family and friends.

Ruth A Felong, 82, beloved wife of the late John J Felong died January 21, 2010 at her home in Angola. Born in Warren PA to Augusta & Clarence Anderson, she finshed her studies in Buffalo at the Albright Art School. She worked as a copy artist at the Jamestown Post-Journal, then a decorative painter at the Jamestown Furniture Co before applying her artistic skills for the enjoyment of her family & friends. Her children, Roxanna Bulger, Lockport, & Andy (Claire) Felong, Redwood City CA, were among the many who learned cooking and sewing from her in 4-H. She is also survived by grandchildren Roger Cook, Jr, Russell & Robert (Beth) Bulger, Patrick & Katie Felong, great grandchildren Allysa, Megan, Russell & Morgan Bulger and many nieces & nephews. She was a lifetime member and frequently served as an officer in Home Bureau, Newcomb-Long Post American Legion Auxiliary and Most Precious Blood Altar & Rosary Society. She was a voracious reader, had a sharp wit and enjoyed cards, bingo and travel.

You can view a gallery of Ruth's art - here.

smart fortwo car

We've purchased a smart fortwo car!

While visiting Europe, we kept running across a very nice looking small car - the "smart" car, made by Mercedes. There have been rumors for the last 5 years that Mercedes would bring the car to the United States. It is already available in Canada. Well, the 2008 model is now being imported into the U.S. It takes about 1 year to get after ordering! Models start at under $13,000. It gets 40+ miles per gallon and has some great safety features. You can get more information on the smart fortwo at www.smartusa.com. You can learn more about our fortwo at our blog - www.blogfortwo.com.

Roman Forum and the Colosseum

An exciting Roman holiday

We have recently returned from a week in Rome. Our first evening in Rome, Pope John Paul II passed away. Claire and Katie waited 7 hours to view the Pope's body laying in wake. We managed to do lots of sightseeing (and walking) despite the activities surrounding this momentous event. Check out our new Photo Albums - Rome - 2005 and John Paul II Memorium

Cosoms 1 Solar Sail and launch sub

Cosmos 1 Solar Sail - launch failure

Andy was fortunate to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the late 70's and early 80's. He contributed to real-time imaging software for the Voyager I and II spacecraft. We have been members of The Planetary Society since its inception in 1980. The Planetary Society, in conjunction with Cosmos Studios, a legacy of Carl Sagan's, has privately funded the Cosmos 1 Solar Sail project. After many delays, Cosmos 1 was launched on June 21, 2005 - by a submerged Russian submarine! Unfortunately, the booster failed to fire correctly and the craft was lost. We hope you will be moved to join the society and support future space exploration projects.
