Shed Inventory
As you might know, or might not, Redwood City Girl Scout Association
has a storage closet at Bair Island Mini Storage,
down just past Century 12. The closet is chock full of flags,
camporee equipment, camping and art supplies. A troop or
individuals are needed to clean out and inventory the contents of the
“Shed”. Not only would this be a
service to the association – you might discover something
new and useful! Contact Erica Chenier at 1-800-447-4475
ext. 121. for details!
Troop News
Dance the Night Away
Junior Troop 48 planned the annual Father Daughter Valentine dance
the "Kings & Princesses of Hearts Ball" held on
February 10th at Mt. Carmel. Over 150 daughters and dads attended.
It was great to see so many dads dancing with their
daughters. Each girl received a goody bag and a chance to win a door
prizes. Guests received a photo to remember the
night.
Troop 48 experienced starting a project and seeing the results They
learned that large projects take more time than you
think, and how much work goes on behind the scenes! The best
part was choosing the music. All the hard work was worth
it for a successful dance and how much fun people had!!
A special thanks to the moms and dads of Troop 48 who helped!
Camporee Fun
Redwood City Girl Scouts had fun in the forest at Spring Camporee March
23-25th. . Girls enjoyed art in the outdoors at
Jones Gulch YMCA Camp in La Honda. Watercolors, quilting, tile-making
and a nature hike rounded out the day. Those who
spent the night enjoyed a community dinner, traded swaps, and sang
loudly despite the rain Saturday evening. See you
all at the next camporee!

Up and Coming
Leader Meetings 2000!
The next Leader Meeting will be March 1, 7:30 at the
CAB Bldg. At the February meeting (thank you to everyone who came!) the
need for volunteers was discussed. The need for an Association Coordinator
was particularly emphasized. The Coordinator runs Leader and Team meetings
and makes sure that volunteer positions are filled. This position can be
shared! Event coordinators are always needed - for example, RWC had no
Thinking Day this year. Many volunteers feel they do not have the knowledge
necessary to run an event - why not team up with an experienced event coordinator
who would like to share the job?Parents who are not leaders can also contribute
to the Association! Judi VanSickle has offered to make copies of job descriptions
for all volunteer positions. They will be available at the April Leader
meeting and on her porch at 541 Quartz thereafter. If you are are excited
and willing right now, please contact the editor, and she will be happy
to mail you a packet!

at claire@redwoodhouse.com.
Thanks! The badge box is well-stocked - call Claire and

Registration Spring Fever!
Spring/early registration packets will be available at
the April leader meeting. At this time due dates will also be available.
These packets will be used for fall registration for existing troops and
will NOT be mailed out. Come pick yours up and get an early bird patch
when you register!
A Masque Ball for Volunteers!
The annual SFBGS Appreciation Banquet and and Silent
Auction will take place April 8th, 2000. The Masque Ball will be an enchanting
evening at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. The committee is looking for
donated items to auction - suggestions include: have everyone in your group
bring an item for a theme basket. Ask friends and family with businesses
to donate a gift certificate. Make your own gift certificate to take another
troop on an outing. Or anything! For details, contact Georgia Kopel at
1-800-447-4475 ext. 105.
Redwood City Girl Scouts Around Town
Senior Gold!
Jill Haberlin of Troop 385 received her Gold Award in
January. She reorganized the RWC School District multi media center making
it easier for teachers to check out supplies for their students.
Amanda Pierce and Rachel Meyers, also of 385, put on Fall Camporee for their Gold Award Project and hope to have their final evaluation turned in soon. Good work girls!
Snow Days!
Cadette Troop 873 took their second annual ski trip to
Lake Tahoe. One scout skied for the first time ever and loved it! In spite
of a storm blowing in on Sunday the troop had a wonderful time sledding.
The best part was making a train of saucers down the hill!
Helping Hands
Junior Troop 665 put together toiletry kits for the Maple
Street Homeless Shelter. The troop collected extra hotel-sized toiletries
from friends and family. They sorted the items by type (shampoos, soap,
mouthwash) and put one of each type in a Ziploc bag. The girls wrote personal
notes to put in each bag, which was the best part of this caring activity!
Wrapping Party!
Junior Troop 1768 with Cadette Troop 873 wrapped donated
toys for "Toys for Tots" in December. The wrapping party was set up by
the RWC Police and Fire Departments. Volunteers came on 3 evenings to wrap
toys in a festive atmosphere, fueled by pizza and other snacks with Christmas
carols playing on a stereo. The girls LOVED this activity!
Thanks to everyone who contributed for sharing your news! (The editor is very happy!) Many thanks to everyone who contributed! Keep those stories coming!
